So we would be hanging on 1/8/11?

    Where?

1/8/11 sounds good. That is a Saturday. I will be going Fri-Sat. I'm thinking the west fork of oak creek canyon would be nice to see in the winter (weather permitting). Anyone know if the water is tolerable that time of year?

Fri-Sat, 7-8 Jan. West Fork of Oak Creek. Meet at Call of the Canyon day area (I asked the folks there and they said you can overnight park).

Meet-up time? I can take off work early on Friday and meet at the park.

    Where are we hanging?

Since it's a day use area, can we camp?

I was in Sedona last weekend. I hope it warms up a bit. It's been chilly!

I've never done one of these group hangs, so sorry if I ask dumb questions.

The day-use area is just to park our cars (although there are places on the highway to park if you're careful). We would need to hike up the West Fork of Oak Creek about 3-6 miles in order to camp. It's an easy hike (all level) with some creek crossing (mostly rock hopping). Lots of trees up in the canyon.

I've done that hike. I just didn't know how this worked
I guess it didn't occur to me that you could camp back there either.

Yes, you can camp up there, but there are regulations on how far up you need to be before dispersed camping is allowed. A lot of people violate that rule -- the last time I backpacked up there I passed a few camp sites that were just off the trail and not far from the trailhead.
