Being an LNT Master Educator and seeing Hammock camping as an ultimate LNT impact reducer I am curious as to how familiar the Forum membership is with Leave No Trace and the Leave No Trace Center.

Leave No Trace is one of the several reasons that I swapped to hammocks. I have been a longtime believer in LNT I think even before I knew that there was such a thing. I have always felt a great respect for the outdoors and always try to make as little impact on an area as possible.
let me stir the pot a bit....
does anyone truly know, as in have studies been conducted on the damage even tree huggers do to the cork cambium? and at what diameter tree? specific tree species? Casual examination by and for a few hangers is suspect facts at best---any true lifespan/disease studies out there concerning the xylem/phloem/etc. of the trees involved?
Maybe WE can be proactive and get some of the greater minds here on a true study that can be published....in time it may be needed to thwart regulators.
Just thinking out loud here in the Arctic south.
I'm going to look into that, there are quite a few studies being done by the LNT Center into impact, perhaps someone has thought of this already.

I've done some work with the offices in Boulder for some of my meetup groups. They're great to work with and glad to encourage properly used hammocks.
Trust nobody!
LNT is very important to me when I'm taking my scouts out on camping trips. You just wouldn't believe the amount of junk they will bring and then that becomes trash. One of the main areas that I try to change is the amount of trash we as a group produce on our trips. Just changing over to all the scouts carrying their own mess kits instead of disposible plates has made a huge impact. I also teach LNT principals to adults at Outdoor leader training coupled with hiking. These adults then go back to their scout troops and hopefully use those ideas to teach their scouts.

Do they drink the gray water? hahahaha
I like to think of both in terms of simplicity. I go to the woods to enjoy nature and leave civilization behind. Therefore the less things I bring the less I let civilization intrude on my experience and the easier it is to LNT.
One thing I struggle with is a fuel stove vs camp fire. The fuel stove leaves less of a trace on the immediate area but the camp fire leaves less of a trace from a Green Earth perspective.
