Which UQ??? (help a noob out)

After years of ground dwelling, I decided to try this hammock thing. I got myself a HH Explorer Deluxe and a couple tarps recently - now I want a nice 3s UQ. I've determined that I want a full length and have been window shopping the Potomac, Nest, Mt. Washington 3, and Incubator. I know the first two are made specifically for HH, but I like the looks of the last two as well. I also feel like the Mt. Washington 3 and Incubator may be more versatile, in that they could work on hammocks other that the HH (should I decide to look at other hammocks in the future).

I've done searches and read quite a bit, but I'd like some opinions on which might work best on my HH. I'm most concerned about comfort and fit, cost is secondary.

Any thoughts/suggestions appreciated!

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the UQ manufacturers that have banners on Hammock Forums. In a community as small as ours junk gear just doesn't stick around very long. With the reviews and personnel posts a bad product/company would not last long.

So which is best, IMO it's a matter of personal taste.

Outland is right every vendor on this site makes quality gear. Now as to which one is best well I gotta throw my vote towards the
3S Incubator. Although I have no personel experience with hammock gears incubator yet any ways, (I say yet because I have a 3S Burrow and 3S Incubator on order) but have used Hammock Gears winter and summer crows nest (name recently changed to Phonix) as well as both burrows and can't speak highly enough of the craftsmanship of the quilts. The 3 big pluses IMHO is that the incubator is a bit wider then the Mt Wash 3, you can personalize the incubator with both color, fill power (800 or 900) as well as beinging cheaper then the Mt Wash 3 saving you money which means you can order a 3S Burrow as well. I also personally like the channel suspension vs the JRB suspension because the channel suspension on the incubator allows you to adjust the UQ (horizontally) while in the hammock. Now again all the vendors sell quality but the easy choice for me has been with hammock gear quilts for all seasons. Check my gallery I got some. Pics up as well as a few reviews on the summer and winter set. Man after drooling over the incubator in this post it really makes me itch for my quilts. Good luck chooseing for it is no easy task.

There isn't a wrong choice. But, I think JRB is doing a sale on Mt. Washington's right now, and JRB stuff is usually in stock. I wouldn't do the nest though, because it is specifically for the Hennessy. It seems that most members here own multiple hammocks from various manufacturers.

I would say it depends on what you're doing with it. If you're backpacking you'll want something light and compressable, which means you want either the MW3 or the Incubator. If you think it will get wet and weight/compressability isn't much of a concern, the Potomac is your answer. I'm just a noob and don't even own a hammock yet but that's what I've gotten from reading the forum. Hope that helps

I love my JRB Mount Washington 3 Convertible(MW3C) ! I use it all summer long in the 2/3 mode and when it gets cold I attach it's companion. I've been down to 17F with just jeans and a t-shirt and down to -1F supplemented with a Therm*a*rest pad. Here is my thread on it http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=25604 . I'll tip my hat in favor of the MW3. I don't have any experience with Hammock Gear quilts, but my suggestion would be for one of those two quilts. The MW3 wins for 2 reasons:
I have and love a MW3.
They are most likely in stock.

The Nest would be my last choice and the Potomac would be a real player under the right conditions, but I prefer down over synthetics so I'm biased on that one.

As others said, all the quilts seen from HF vendors are high quality and any of them work well. It comes down to personal preference. If you dont have to buy one right now, and can get to a hang somewhere, you will have an opportunity to possibly try out some different quilts as I understand quite a few hangers bring extras for things like this...

Ive learned that there is more to buying a quilt than what others may recommend to you... it depends on how you sleep (on back, curled up, etc), if you are a hot or cold sleeper... Stuff you need to figure out as you go about this new adventure.

Some swear by the partial quilts, others the full lengths. Others, it depends on the weather. You may end up like most of us buying a few different quilts over time!

Either way you cannot go wrong with any of the quilts you may purchase from HF vendors the first time. (other than buying a thin summer quilt for use in the middle of January in SW PA) But as you learn you will develop your own preference for whichever style and loft works best for you. That includes if you like using a pad to supplement your quilts or not.

If you want a full length with the ultimate convienence of the marriage of the UQ slit to the HH entrance slit the JRB nests are the only quilts with this feature.

All other UQ require an easy move of the UQ to the side then enter...The JRB suspension, unlike the channel systems, provided triangulation that enables the UQ to snap back in place automatically once the llast leg is pulled in...for all of the JRB non Nest quilts, ie such as the Mt washington series, and the economy models of the Hudson River and the Old Rag Mtn quilts
