Easiest way to put loop ends on short amsteel ??

I have some 18" really nice amsteel loop ends to use with decender rings and straps that someone here made for me a while back but they are so long the rings end up outside my tarp. Dont know how to describe it but they are run back inside the amsteel about 8"

I have some amsteel I bought a while back and want to make some really short loop ends, IE like the rings will be about 4" from the end of the hammock so I probably need them 6" or 7" total length.

If someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

    Thanks

Here's how to make a continuous loop. Just start with a shorter length of amsteel.

Hey your welcome. This is all I use for my loops and never had a problem. There are recommended lengths for how much to bury and taper each end although I have make loops with buries as short as 2 inches per end with no issues. Or course do that at your own risk. I usually have where the buries start as the part that folds over the biner. I figure the fold there helps prevent slipping but I could be way off.

36" length with a 7" bury will make a 10" long double and that will work out about right.

    Thanks

What is the capacity reduction of this stuff when you bury the ends to make a typical
    loop end ??

Don't quote me but I thought it was a 40% reduction in strength with a locked brummel splice. Still very strong though. Strong enough for hammock applications.

Don't know the percentage but as hiker_DC said no worries for hammock uses.
There are a lot of Warbonnet Blackbirds out there using loops made with Double Fisherman's knots and there haven't been any problems that I have read and knots decrease the strength ratings way more than splicing.

The ones I pulled apart failed at 1600 pounds, give or take. I even broke a biner during one test.

The locked brummel, if it does cause any derate, is less then 5%. There is argument on both sides as to whether it does or doesnt. Ive found that the locked brummel is no weaker than a stitched bury. Thats just in my own personal, rudimentary testing, however.
