Can I please get some help on Adjustable Slings

Hi,
Just wondering if any one will be kind enough to help me select the best adjustable slings, please?
Aiming for:
- plenty of strength
- flat so it doesn't damage the trees
- the possibility of adjusting the tension without getting out of the hammock
- simple to use
- pliable
- doesn't deteriorate easily.
By the way, it will be carried in a backpack along with a hammock & other hiking equipment.
I don't have much experience on computers. This is the first time on a forum site. I only stumbled on this section where I am writing this. I hope I can figure out how to send it & more so, I hope I can find any messages written to me.

You can make or buy some whoopie slings. Try www.whoopieslings.com. Its got details and some videos. The slings are made out of Amsteel and are rate to 1600 pounds. I made my own, they are very easy to adjust and lock down tight. You can buy them and make your own by buying some 7/64 or 1/8 inch amsteel.

To use: Just attach the fixed loop to your hammock and attach the other end to your webbing

Yep, whoopie slings are the way to go and will meet your criteria. Amsteel has lots of other uses too!

except for the 'adjust from inside hammock" -once load is applied, the whoopies will stay in place; it is what make them useful..
perhaps something with a block and tackle? (just kidding! that would be too heavy!)
getting out to adjust is one thing most of us just deal with, since once your system is set for max comfort, it is easy to do it that way every time. KM

For what he is asking, whoops would not be the way to go. Your really looking for adjustable straps. You could look at using descender rings with the straps or the triglides/cinch buckle route. What your not going to be able to do is adjust things from inside the hammock.

Starting with the tree straps, most use polypropeline webbing, 1 inch wide, it stretches less than nylon, some refer to them as tree straps, many options as far as connecting to the next hammock suspension.

Whoopie slings, or some use rings or buckles or toggles. Amsteel is the usual choice for strength and light weight but is not the only way, there really is no wrong way. IMHO whoopie slings are the easiest.

I don't believe you will be able to adjust any of the suspensions while you are in the hammock. There is just to much pressure on the suspension systems. usually 500 pounds or more.

Anything you find on here will be pretty flexible and pliable. Durability may vary some but all will last quite a long time also.

Just spend some time searching some of the posts.

For ease of adjustment, with a little weight penalty, SMC rings and straps are the way to go.

I'll assume you are referring to flat strapping to wrap around the tree and not your suspension being perfectly horizontal. If that is the case I'd probably say whoopie slings with tree huggers, if you want the suspension system horizontal then webbing suspension is much easier to do that with (its doable with whoopies). Also realize that as you make your suspension closer to horizontal you are increasing the pressure on the tree. That said only do that on hard barked vs living barked trees and have large straps.
