    Doubling Up UQ's?

    I've got a MW3 Convertible, 42" wide that says it's good till 15 - 20 drgrees

I've got a Crowsnest Summer, 45" wide, good for 40 degrees on the way.

Is it a good idea to combine them for below freezing temps?

Putting the wider bag over the narrower bag or the other way around?

Would one compress the other too much?

Any idea what would the added Summer bring the rating down to?

It doesn't hurt to combine them, but don't expect to gain the combined temperature rating.

You are already aware of possible compression, and all you can do is mitigate it. I would do the MW3 closest to the hammock, and attach the Crowsnest to the outside of it. A Crowsnest inside might push the MW3 out too far and negate its usefulness as as full length UQ.

How far below freezing are you trying to go? at 15-20 degrees you're already 12-15 degrees below....

It can be done, I do so. As pointed out compressing one UQ with the other is a concern, I have my set up "Fine tuned" so only compress the top UQ about 1/4" or less & that only in the middle.
    MY set up:
    Me
    Hammock
    Ray Way 3/4 UQ
    KAQ New river
    Molly Mac 1X

& actually, with the 1X I can leave the New river hang not touching the Ray Way & it still adds to what I can take cold wise. So often it really is:
Me, hammock, Ray way, 1" air space, New River, 1" air space, 1X.

Alone my (Prototype) New River will get me to about 45 - 50, so adds 35 degrees as I can go bare hammock to 70 or cooler.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.

    Yes . . . Yes . . . Yes . . . Yes . . . Yes . . .

As stated when I first got here to HF . . .

    I lived in a tent for 2 years 25 or so years ago . . .

2 dacron hollow fill mummy bags rated for about -7°c or 19.4° F
    One inside the other

    Sleeping . . . Down to -34c/-29.2F I was just OK
-36c/-32.8F and I was not wanting to even wiggle my toes as they would feel the extreme cold of the bag.

I would say 2 UQ would be a good thing as long as the weight to pack was not an issue.

Yawn .... I posted the question and went for a lay down and just got up. Can't believe how much sleep I'm getting just testing the whole thing

I'm hanging in the furnace room with the MW3 and my back doesn't get hot at all so I'm wondering how will I be able to hang it outside and still be this warm?
Right now it's -2C or 27 F and by going from the mfg ratings I should be fine without the extra UQ.

    Hard to believe.

I'm not sure if I should drag it out there and experiment but why not??

What do I wear inside it?

Wow, you got that out of two hollowfill bags????

I won't be travelling far ... never hung outside yet so for now it'll be the back patio

So the 1X is used a a vapor barrier / wind blocker?

Any condensation or is it too far from your heated body to matter?

How about Gore Windstopper as a barrier?
