Now that it is cold out, I don't spend nights in my hammock, but I do get out there in the woods and practice setting up and taking down my gear. The main reason I do this is because the last hang was a couple weeks ago at Dingman's and the morning we left it was raining pretty good. Luckily, we were all car camping and could just throw everything in the back of the car, but what if that wasn't an option. Now, I go out and act like it is raining, just to make sure I know what to do, in what order, and where to put things. It also helps with site selection, quickness, and making sure I don't forget anything when I leave. But you've got to do it in the woods, on different trees. That is the tricky part about a hammock; every set-up is different. No two trees are exactly alike, unlike the ones in your back yard.
Plus it keeps me excited for warm weather
