    Tell me about it

Here in Bangor we'll see maybe 3 inches of show before it all melts with the warmup tomorrow afternoon. I spoke with an old-timer today; she said that the weather here has definitely been changing over the last few years...

In the mean time, they are being absolutely buried in many western areas.

For example, over 105" ON THE GROUND(180" of snow fall thru yesterday, but another 26" so far today) at Alta, UT

    Similar up in WY:

Mammoth Mountain has had 12 feet of new snow in the last 7 days, 180" is on the ground, and snow is forecast for at least 2 more days. And it is only Dec 20.

The best part of this is, the snow is up at the ski resorts and not in my driveway.

Edit: Open mouth and insert foot - I guess it started snowing last night and has not stopped. It was rain all day yesterday, but this morning we have 7-8" of snow to shovel out of the yard. Still snowing but it's getting warm, so it might just go away as fast as it came.

Not that I'm whining about the cold "being from the Tampa Bay area, Florida" but, we have been getting incredibly cold temperatures very early in the year for us. Many nights of below freezing temps. And it isn't even winter yet. We saw a little snow last year and if this keeps up we may see more this year. A very bad 2 years for farmers here.

Ski resorts are going to be loving this base come Spring...skiers are going to be loving the powder right now. The weather reports are saying the snow pack from this storm will need to be measured in yards! I'd give an eyeball report for the Southern San Juaquin mountans (Sierras) but it has been raining non-stop since Friday night and I can't see the local mountains.

For us Kalifornians this means beginning Spring 2011 will be solid gold for outdoors activity. It also means the PCT will be snow covered in the higher elevations until very late in the Spring/Summer. I can visualize hammocks strung on the Kern Plateau and brooks full of fat trout!

Pure Gold in the wilderness area... I would trade a couple 20"+ Cutts for one 12" Golden beauty.
