Looking forward to the pictures and stories!
Bummer Dude. . . but I understand, priorities first.

On that note, as much as I would like to make this event, common sense (financial reasons only) has taken over and I too will be backing out. I'll save the vacation time and make a trek up that way soon.

Hope you guys have an excellent weekend and leave the Park Staff thinking great things about hammocks and those that use them. Looking forward to the reports and pics . . .

Looks like we're going to have to bring shorts and flip-flops:

Yea, it rained last year too, then we got lots of snow. Ya can never tell with weather. Yes Virginia, it CAN rain in 17 degree weather.

This just occurred to me, , well, more I just remembered I had thought of it before:

This year lets try to do a formal "tour of the set ups". We have always had informal individual "look See" type tours, but at random times & not everyone got to see all available. Example: How many of you saw Stormcrow & Hollow leg's "Bunk Bed" set up at the 2010 hang? Yea, stuff like that.

I propose, & feel free to say NO WAY, a group tour from Noon(ish) on Saturday to Dinner time. Those wanting to be on the tour, sign up. Those wanting to take the tour just show up.
For those showing "just" your hammock, perhaps have your tarp halfway thrown back so all can see. Likely we can get most at or around each set up, & then move on to the next one, perhaps with a short pause so the Exhibitors can cover up & then see each others stuff. Assuming 15 set ups X 10 minutes each viewing, the pot luck usually starts around 3PM (1500 for some of us) we have plenty of time. More exhibits? talk faster seriously, with about a 3 hr time frame, we can likely do 18 with ease, if we need more time, start earlier than noon.
    Suggested items for display:
How I stayed warm. ie: insulation. Especially if it is "unusual".
Heat sources, or "Hot tents" as the winter trekkers call it.
Ways to close your tarp off from the elements: Griz Beaks, sewn in doors, folding the ends of the tarp, ???????.
Suspension stuff: ropes, Webbing / straps, other.
Tarps & how they are set up: stakes, ridgelines, self adjusters, etc.
    Stoves.
    Clothing.
Anything Hammocks or camping, of course we are esp interested in Winter Camping stuff.

    Should be fun & educational.

FYI: this time next week, I'll (Hopefully) be sound asleep on top of Mt Rogers.

99% chance that I can not go. Sudden $$$ problems so money set aside for the hangout is going to my family.

You guys have a GREAT time & roast a pony for me.

I'll be there in spirit, & will still be trying to get there till Friday PM.
