    Checking in for Mt. Rogers

Jimbo here. I believe Shane has previously posted that he and McGarry (that's me) will be joining the group. I'm thinking of making a pot or 2 of Jambalaya for Saturday night. Not a pot as big as I'd use at home, but I can do a 4 quart pot on my Whisperlite.

Also, I'm interested in adding whoopies to my HHDJ. If anyone has an extra set they can bring to this hang, I'd love to try them out/buy them.
    Looking forward to the trip.

Sounds good Jimbo. Looking forward to it!

Here are a couple pictures from Google Earth that may be helpful for those new to the park.
Note the captions under the pictures after you click on them.

And here is another picture that zooms in on the parking areas (as seen with no snow) in the camp ground.

    Probably better for 4-wheel drives.

Parking B is paved, level & holds approximately 8 cars?
    Best parking for cars.

Parking C is paved but down hill. We'll see what the rangers suggest about it's use. It might hold another 5-6 cars.

I'm just guessing by memory on the size of the parking areas. The Rangers can be more accurate & suggest additional parking if needed.

WV, you said you would bring a load of firewood, but I'm not guessing that you are bringing a "whole truck load", so we will probably need more than what you are bringing, right?

I think it was someone else who was going to bring firewood. I'm bringing my folding buck saw and Molly Mac Pack, and plan to forage for wood at some distance from the campground, mostly because I enjoy doing that and have fetched wood at each of the hangs I've attended. This will be wood for the group campfire, but don't expect a truckload.

You and I are the only contestants, and we already know that you have won!

The campground road is just at one mile. Depending on where you park at Massie Gap (there are parking spaces almost all the way down to the campground road), you could add up to another quarter mile. There is a horse trail leading from Massie Gap to the campground that parallels the road. Just park on the main road at Massie Gap, go across the field and through the metal gate (on the right), turn right and when you see the hitching posts, you are across from the country store and group site.

I think Hickery was the one who mentioned a truckload of firewood in this post.

Ahhh yeah, that was Hickery I was thinking about.
Also, aBRG2far said he could bring some fire wood.
