Hmmm..now I'd need to see if I can take an extra day off...

For some of us, less than 20 days left to plan.
Time to put on your thinking caps & decide what you are bringing to the Pot Luck dinner on Saturday.
It's also time to finalize your winter insulation cause it will be cold out there! Bear in mind that a Underquilt isn't absolutely necessary, there are other options like: (combination of?) T-Rest pads, ccf pads, fleece blankets as an underquilt, space blankets, etc.
Also, standing around talking is colder than hiking. It can be colder then hiking in to camp & fixing dinner then going to bed. From previous years it seems that people's feet get the coldest the fastest.

Jan 21 - 23 is fast approaching, so put in for vacation time, grab a few hand warmers & head on down to the Grayson highlands!
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.

Thanks! Fire wood is something we need commitments on.
I would volunteer but unfortunately the grasshopper didn't get as much fire wood gathered as he should have before winter
I supplement my gas furnace by burning wood in the stove in the basement, keeping the natural gas bill down considerably. I'll have to spread what I have out to cover most of the colder times this winter & be sure to have some on hand in case of a power outage.

So if a couple more folks were able to bring wood they have cut or bought in bulk, it will be far cheaper than buying small bundles & lots more fun than trying to gather it
I too will something make and joy in it's making

I have added a (sort of) planning "thingy" for a Thursday side hike to the summit of Mt Rogers for an over night trip if any are arriving then & are interested.

A neat point brought out by Mad777 on the Florida hangout planning forum about group hangouts:

"One of the primary advantages of the large group congregation is the demonstration of gear. (Including lots of stoves). That takes up a significant amount of time and requires a stationary stage."

Both hangouts that weekend offer this benefit. Plus there is the chance to brainstorm & in fact several really good ideas were spawned or improved at the MRHO & other hangouts. So if you can't make it to VA, try to get to FLA that weekend, or the next weekend at the NJ hang plus a few others that I can't remember. Fun AND educational all of them.
