    Down quilt manufacturing.

Not sure if this was filmed at HG, JRB, WB or any of the other fine HF manufacturers. Skip to about 4:00 in the first link, unless you want to know how boat propellers are made.

PS: Yes, I know it was NOT filmed at any of "our" usual sources!

Thanks for the interesting link. Always cool to see rather than visualize.

That show should be painfully boring. But oddly, I'm always drawn in and learn something. Thanks for posting it, as I learned how they actually measure fill power. I'm assuming the cylinder is 1 cubic meter.

    What I found most interesting

was the sophistication of the processing...process. I guess I just didn't realize how big the market is for down, and feather bedding. I just wonder what percentage of the world's down production actually goes towards high-quality bags, quilts and clothing..........

Interesting historical tidbit: Back in the late 70s when I was in the outdoor retail business, The North Face started buying high-quality (550-600fp) down from China. Seems that their common border with Soviet Russia demanded lots of down-filled jackets and pants for Chinese soldiers - Soviet/Chinese tensions were high at the time. As such, China had big processing capacity and low labor rates. I doubt that sorting was done by sophisticated machinery!

Thanks for posting! Of course you can't browse YouTube without following the trail of related videos.. Here's a short but interesting clip from Marmot on how they fill and sew their bags: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9RArbICMLI
