I know. Weather in the Grand Canyon has been crappy, so I decided to wing it. Wait till you see the next place I'm heading!

Every trip is an adventure. I always make plans for my trips but if the trip does not go as planned, I still have fun just being out there.

That's the point, right? Enjoy the outdoors, no matter what it throws at you!

They don't call New Mexico the "Land of Enchantment" for nothing! I've been there and it does fell different. I really like NM! Glad you had a great time (except for the boots).

It really is enchanting. I will be sad to be leaving it, even if it is for just a short time. So many places to see, so many trails to hike!

Great report and pictures. I agree with you New mexico is a fantastic. I have been lucky enough to get out a few times in the Lincoln National Forest. It's looking like I may get back to New Mexico this coming year. I hope to squeeze in a few hiking and hanging when I do.

Nobody can say anything bad about the hiking here, especially this time of year. There are so many National Parks, so many trails! I really wanted to do the day hike into the San Antonio hot springs, but other trails have been calling my name.

Safe travels and keep posting those pics so we can see what you're up to.

When I was growing up I got to spend a lot of time in New Mexico. I spent weeks at a time wandering around Pecos Wilderness as a teenager. I have great memories of that place. I would like to return sometime. If you get the opportunity to check it out, I highly recommend it. However, this time of year travel would be difficult and the weather is treacherous even in the summer. The Chama River drainage and the Ville Vidal Wilderness are also great. I'm particularly fond of the Sangre de Cristos. Ah, so many nice places in NM. I enjoyed your pictures.

There are literally thousands of places on my list now in NM. I may have to move here, just so I can hit them all! Thank you for the compliment on the pics! More coming, as I am heading to a new, secret hiking location to be disclosed in the next week when I complete the next section of my SW hiking!

Great pics Fin. I have never been to NM but have always liked the red rock and snow pics,,,,maybe someday. I don't know what your mukluks are like , i wonder if a Neo Adventurer boot would fit over them,,,,been eying them up at my local outfitter. Thanks for sharing

New Mexico has a lot of great outdoor opportunities. Don't be afraid to drive a little. There's a ton to see.

Awesome pics and trip report, there, Fin! My kinda hiking/camping! I am looking forward to getting to the NM/AZ area once I retire ... and spending a lot of time communing with Mother Nature again!

Great pictures and trip report Fin! This is a great time to hit the back country in NM. Please post more of your travels--I'm getting the itch to get out after the holidays!

Sorry to hear about the mukluks--getting them wet is the major downside to them, especially if they freeze up.
