As a participant in the "Winter bivouac" i can vouch for the exquisite food that "Saupacker" made - in 29 years of outdoor living, i never been treated with better food - period! Just think about this: getting up in -15 celsius and being treated with warm freshly baked cinnamon rolls - absolutely amazing!
So a big thank you to "Saupacker" for inviting us to this fantastic event!
Just to stress the level of hospitality we where treated with; when we were driving to the "Winter bivouac" we got stuck in a big traffic jam and incidentally got very delayed, but they stayed up till very late and greeted us welcome with hot "grog" and venison goulasch - you just can´t beat that the only bad thing about the event: that it didn't last longer and that i didn't had a bigger appetite for all that wonderful food

So a big thanks for the invitation Christian(and congrats on your first on line date)

PS; and those walnuts/cashew nuts tasted even better than they looked(and don´t even get me started on the meat)

Sounds like you all had a great time. Would love to see the pics but Picasa says the album isn't public?

I was fortunate enough to attend this event, and I can honestly say that saupacker is second to none when it comes to outdoor cooking. FANTASTIC doesn't even cover it.

Besides great food, we also got to taste some really great rum and schnaps (thanks Christian & Christian)

My friend Jan slept in the hammock without UQ and tarp and it was actually his first time sleeping in a hammock. He was a bit cold the last night (temp around -15C), but that was due to wet socks and a broken sleeping bag zipper. We'll take him on more hangs in the spring and hopefully we'll get him hooked

My new Winter Incubator and Winter Burrow kept me warm through the night and I actually said a silent thanks to Adam and Jenny from Hammock Gear every night

Thanks for inviting us saupacker - much appreciated!
Hope to see you again soon. Please give my regards to all your wonderful friends and family.

Seems like everyone enjoyed themselves and stayed warm. All the food (and the gear of course) looked great. Well done.

    boys'n girls:
thank you all very much for your kind words! I will indeed try to set the whole thing up again next winter, maybe some of you from the other side of the pond are around then? It'd be my pleasure to welcome you as well!

@swampfox: that cashew-walnut delicacy is one of many old and traditional Christmas treats and simply called "burned nuts" (although they're not really intended to be burned at all. Here's how you go about it:
Dissolve about 1lb of white sugar in 1qt water, add very slowly (!) bring to a boil. Add a good dash of cinnamon and vanilla powder, very little nutmeg if you like. Add 1lb of almonds, cashews, macadamia or whatever other nuts you like best. Simmer/boil until sugar starts to caramelize (ie turn from white to yellow and light brown), but that time the mix will have a consistency of thick honey. Now comes the tricky part: take off the fire when nicely brown, but the whole thing will change from "nicely brown" to "charcoal type brown" in an instant. Time window is very small! Pour onto baking paper and spread out, one cool, eat of paper or wait til rock hard. Careful: Holt, melted sugar is VERY hot to the touch!

@taozenqi: Glühwein was there alright, make no mistakes, but camera man was obviously busy slurping the good stuff away!

@bomber and TheWild: It was a pleasure having you gentlemen! Hope to keep our "international hangin' relationship" up and active!

    all the best, saupacker
