Help add lite DL to 1.9 SL

I wanted to make a 1.1 oz DL. My math says I bought 1.9 oz. (7.5 yards of 60" weighs 22-26 oz). A double 1.9 will weigh too much.
What is a good cheap/ light material for the second layer?

If YOU are light enough, you could get by with a DL 1.1 which will bring you the weight savings. Combining two layers of differing strengths could result in one layer failing before the other.

I wanted a double layer of 1.1, but the only cheap fabric available was 1.9.

We've got 1.1oz in stock at $3/yd. You could also do one layer with 1.1 and one with 1.9 for a pretty nice hybrid.

Thanks. I have spent some time on your site. Your pattern was my go by. I am not a gram weanie, but I don't think I want 1.9 plus 1.1.

I think I'm going to make two 1.9 single layer hammocks for me and my son. When I make the 1.1 DL, I'll lok you up. You have great prices.

Also, can't I add the second layer at anytime? I would have to untie the gathered end, but I would not need to rip any stitches out.

Sure can. Just be sure the second layer is sewn on so it wraps around the channel so both layers are gathered together at the ends.

    Triple layer 1.1

Not to hijack the OP, but I just had a strange thought. Has anyone tried a triple-layered hammock? I just now realized 3 X 1.1 < 2 X 1.9. (Okay, I did know that before, but I'm talking in terms of hammock construction.) While it might be more complicated, would also shave off weight versus a DL 1.9 or 1.7 even. I imagine there's a reason I haven't heard of one before, but I just thought I'd throw that out there...
