Tyvek Tarp Grommets or Nylon loops?

Now you have me curious. I just tried to pull one of Mac's envelopes apart, and couldn't do it. Bet Gargoyle could, though.

The stitching is ~8-10 tpi.

I've got some gg ribon and Tyvek in the kitchen, now, all covered with drying contact cement. I'll report back on that little experiment.

Okay, the bond was good, but the Tyvek failed. With ~1" of overlap, I couldn't pull it apart (sheer). I was, however, able to easily peel it apart (tensile), taking a layer of TV with the gg.

I wouldn't hesitate to glue a gg loop on, making a gg/TV/gg sandwich about 2" long, and then stitch it all together.

Interesting. Ill have to give that a go on the scraps. I have quite a bit of scraps left over from cutting the hex and cat cuts. Should prove to be an interesting project

I've had good luck with grommets on my Tyvek tarp, after using them properly.

How do you use grommets improperly?
1. Put the grommet within 2" of the edge AND
2. Don't reinforce the pullout with a 2nd layer of Tyvek.

Also, I taped my reinforcements with Tyvek tape.

2" is a long distance. Mine are diffidently with in two inches. Maybe thats why it pulled out today in 27mph winds. I just fixed the one that pulled out with two more layers of tyvek and 2 layers of tape.

I would try some combination of grosgrain tape and Tyvek tape, and then sew through all of it, using large stitches.

Edit: A number of adhesives work with Tyvek...gluing and stitching might be worth looking into.

OK, so i made my tyvek tarp and i have sewn in about 12 inch pieces of webbing that is folded in half so there is webbing on both sides of the tyvek. i reinforced with multiple layers of tyvek tape before i sewwed, and when i started stitching, the needle got SUPER sticky and i kept breaking needles b/c they got so sticky. i ended up in a bad spot and had to stop every 30-45 seconds to rub off as much adheisve as possible with a rag and some rubbing alcohol. Lesson: sew it, the tape over it. i did sew over another bit of tyvek tape while doing another project, and even though it was only a single layer, it still gummed up the needle and the machine got all pissy with me like before. make it easy on yourself and sew it b4 you tape it. BTW: the webbing-tyvek connection is bombproof and super strong, so dont need to worry about it ripping. sewwing makes a stronger connection b/c it spreads the load out, or at least that is what mine did b/c of the webbing.
