I will be there at noon on Friday, also. Coming up the Turnpike from Palm Beach county.

AND BY THE WAY, I couldn't resist any longer ... I just ordered a Dutch Oven, Aughhhh! I have no will power, I kept tasting cherry cobbler in my mind

Awesome! I can smell the fresh baked cobbler already. Blackberry, Apple Cinnamon, Peach, Cherry... Just giving out ideas.

**** I can't wait for all the Good Eats. Best part of camping I think

p.s. Just got the 3 Season Phoenix/Crowsnest in this morning. Gonna need it with this freezing weather.

Cool! What size Dutch Oven did you get? I've found that the 20 Qt handles a large crowd. and the smaller ones are perfect for home cooking in fire pit or in a inside fireplace. When wood coals are not available from a well kept fire I just use charcoal. Works seamlessly. What method do you use?

    I got a smaller one, 12" diameter & 6" deep.
I am clueless about Dutch ovens but I fiqured the only way to learn was to get one and burn something

I am bringing a big bag of charcoal to the Florida hang because I don't know how convenient the bonfire will be for cooking.

There are some recipes for Dutch ovens online, so now I need to do some research!

OMG! Hawk-Eye's photo of the dutch oven Peach Cobbler recipe looks to die-for-delicious!
You 'all are evil with these comfort food cooking ideas, and Dutch Ovens. Reading my posts all over the forums, you probably already know I'm a sucker for jumping into go-buy-it stuff.
Don't tell me I now need to run out and pickup a Dutch Oven too? Would be good to have along car-camping to help cook up something warm & mouth watering with all this cold weather. Hmmmm

I was able to talk with the Lake George Ranger Station today. We are in the clear as far as deer hunting season goes. According to the ranger station, we should have no conflicts with hiking the trails. And naturally, we have our own secluded and private campground that is reserved just for us at Buck Lake.

I will telephone the ranger's station the day before to get the gate code to give us access to Buck Lake and its parking and camping pleasures. Check in will be anytime after 12:00 noon on Friday, Jan 21. Check out time is 10:00 am on Monday, Jan 24.

Please let me know if there are any other questions specific to campground reservations or our stay at Buck Lake for the long weekend.

I have a few geeky Type A things I want to at least try and cover (it is part of my academic's temperament, I apologize). One is falling into place and that is (as I have said before) that some sort of formalized group emerge from this to serve hammock hanger needs and interests in FLorida. That will happen--indeed is well on the way already. But during the weekend I would like to see if we can have set gatherings (optional of course) to cover, A: cool stoves (of course if the new boilers make it here before the hang Islander and I will just be giggling all weekend). B. Best Hiking knives. So many options. C. Best Florida Hikes. and D. A "Beautiful Homes Walk Through the Camp" so that everyone who wants to can show off their rig and innovations. I think this kind of stuff will prove amazingly helpful and really let everyone learn from one another. Like I said, academic temperaments are deeply rooted. Not wedded to it all, but wanted to at least throw it all into the mix.

Flackfizer, your agenda is exactly how I envisioned the weekend with a lot of down time for conversation around the campfire sprinkled generously in between. I think the big benefit of these groups is a continuation of the sharing of equipment and ideas, just as we do on the forum, but being able to touch, feel, smell and taste as necessary.

And I agree, we definitely need to discuss and form an action group concerning the hammock ban in the state park system.
