    Noob from Bama!

Hey everybody on the forum. Been ramblin all my days but not a hanger till last year. Bought my first, Expedition Asym. Like it so far. Need some cold weather hammock gear. I like the Speer SPE but can't find one on their website. Might have to make one.
Been watching Shug's video's. Lots of good info & entertainment to boot. Bear Grylls should be replaced with an outdoor reality show with Shug's ramblins. I'd watch'em.
Thanks to the admins, nice site.

    Firedog:
Welcome to HF from Gadsden............I think most of the Speer Gear is being sold at Tree to Trail Gear. They are not offering the SPE but................here is a link to a DIY SPE: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=17792. Good luck in your search and keep an eye for local group hangs around Cheaha.

Welcome to ya! A DIY SPE is a very doable project. Careful though once you start down the DIY path. There is no turning back and you will be hooked for life.

    Firedog, welcome!
I do like your avatar (I have that patch myself, from 30ish years ago).
Good to have you with us. You just missed the Cheaha hang, a week and a half ago. Here are the links to the trip reports here and here.
We have unofficially discuss another hang in the spring there.

I am not familiar enough with the Hennessy to make any specific suggestions. I have used a DIY quilt and a Hammock Gear 3-Season Incubator very effectively. My son borrowed one of bigbamaguy's KAQ New River with a supplemental layer of Insultex. We were worried about temps into the upper 20s so we added a space blanket, but he ended up sweating, he was so hot!

Plenty of ideas here. Just look through the Hammock Camping group, and especially pay attention to the General, Top and Bottom insulation forums. And be sure to ask plenty of questions. Shug has some great info here (he is one in a million!), but don't overlook Just Jeff's website which is full of tons of great camping, hammocking and backpacking info.

I second Papabear's warning: DIY is like the path to the dark side, and there is no return from that choice.

Again welcome, and don't be shy.

Hi Firedog. Welcome from another Alabama hanger. This is where I learned everything that there is to know about hammocks (I mean everything that I know about hammocks). Great site and great members and JustJeffs site is the Hangers Bible or "Hammock Hanging for Dummies".

I too have one of those patches somewhere from 30 years ago.

Welcome Firedog from next door (Florida).
That DIY stuff is very addictive but it certainly is fun.
I'm typing this while taking a break from 4 simultaneous projects!
(I hope I don't sew one onto the next one)
