Been musing on this. The pull-outs will pull the tarp away at the edges, which is good when the hammock's spreader bar is at the edges of the tarp's cut. Won't do the job if the tarp is large enough relative to the hammock so that the spreader bars are well inside. Such as, to pick not so random an example, the JRB 11x10 tarp.

But there's a way I think to pull the sides out all the way across the face of the tarp, and also permit the lower portion of the tarp wall to descend more steeply to the ground, and so give more protection from the side.

How about taking a lightweight replacement tent pole and run it the length of the tarp wall, attached at the sides where HC4U would put the extra tie-outs. Attach side tie-out lines to that , and as you pull on the ends the pole will bring the side out too.

Not straight unfortunately, unless you have really stiff poles. But who knows? It will be fun to try and see what happens.

I suppose if you carry spreader bars then you could use your hiking poles for the side pullouts. Have the two lines come to the pole and then a line to the ground.

It is a popular color. I wish I had seen that coyote brown sil at Thru-hiker. Wonder if they'll get more in?

Anyone know the Chinese word for silnylon? I suppose I'll have to order some "earth" colored sil from there. Or Taiwan? S. Korea? Mexico?

I don't think the Chinese have a word for silnylon. My brother travels to China 3-4 times a year and he met my sister-in-law there. I have shown her samples of silnylon and I have sent samples with my brother to China, with no luck. I know it's there but my brother said that the fabric market is HUGE and there is a language barrier. The next time my sister-in-law goes back to China with him I plan on seeing if she can hunt some down since she speaks the language.

I hope to go over to China with my brother at some point. I have dreams of finding row upon row of silnylon in earthy tones like olive drab and brown, at .50 per yard.

You'd most likely hyperventilate and pass out, like Robin Williams' character in the supermarket coffee aisle in "Moscow on the Hudson"... anyone else see that movie?

Hmmm...the lost world of silnylon, Shangri-La...

I think I'd soil myself and then calmly make my purchase.
