NX-150/250 Speader Bar warning

I have had my NX-150 set up in the basement for a week or so

24/7 so to speak . . .

and the other morning I thought I noticed
that the squeeze was a little more than usual ? ? ?

So I took the rods out and eye'd them up and noticed that they were somewhat curved

So I am supposing that long term set up is a no no
and if the hammock is left to hang for long periods
one should at least release the rods.

When I set it up next time;
I will be consciously setting it up with the curve contra to any built in curve.

Every interaction i've had with the clark people has been great. I would call them and let them know. I bet they send you new poles.

I can see where such small fiberglass-reinforced rods could take a set after a prolonged set-up. I will wager a guess that the resin is simple polyester, which has less strength than does vinylester or epoxy. The net effect is that the bending action causes the reinforcing glass fibers to slip within the resin matrix, and take on the dreaded "set" you have experienced. Resins such as vinylester and epoxy have a more tenacious grip on the glass fibers, resulting in a stronger laminate. ANd a more expensive one.

Allowing the rods to warm up MAY cause the set to disappear or at least minimize. Warming them gently with a heat gun on low setting or a hair dryer will speed the process.

I don't know these poles or the setup so this might not be pertinent. But any time I have tried to reverse a set on poles they have always managed to twist around so the set is aligned the way it wants to be. Those things have a mind of their own. Or that has been my experience. You might have more luck pegging them on a flat surface and then weighting them in place.

I would assume that the poles would be like fishing rod blanks. Before you work out where to put the guides, you always check for the "backbone" or "spine" of the blank. They have a point when you rotate them under sideways pressure where they want to sit, and in the case of a good rod, you want to have the guides line up on the natural curvature of the tubing.

To summarise, if they are flexing in a particular spot, I dont think you can do a whole lot to change that. Mebbe pull the trigger on some sweet carbon fiber replacements? Any excuse for new kit!

trying to use the spreaders opposite of the set's curvature. I can see them wanting to take the path of least resistance and rotating inside the ferrules until they are back at the set's position. Hoops are funny things!

I seem to remember an admonition in the CJH website against replacing the spreader poles with stronger ones. I guess in this case wimpy is good. I still think that a gentle heating and massaging will restore them to almost new condition.

What better weather to test a Superfly in! IMO....
