That's great, WV!
That's great, WV!
I'd love to hammock-camp with my dogs, but it's a nogo with my current lineup...
Cedar: a beagle-chow mix is a grumpy old man of a dog, and doesn't want to sleep outside (he doesn't even want to go outside much anymore)...
Miles: a lab-dane mix who loves being outside with me, but gets ridiculously defensive of me after dark
Maybe our next dog...

My Author Website/Blog - My first novel, "Here Be Monsters", a mystery set in the Adirondacks, has just been published in paperback and Kindle formats.
I have a Lab/Papillon mix ( I know weird, right?) and she loves to sleep in the hammock with me. Granted she is only 4 months old and weighs 21ib. But, I've been training her to get used to it so I can take her with me on multi-day hikes.

WV That is such a cool idea.. I love the dog hammock.
WV did you make that hammock attachment yourself? That is incredibly awesome!

He is a good looking pup.
It's actually a separate hammock that's hanging under mine, but I have since devised ways of hanging it slightly to one side, which works a lot better. It's good to remember that people usually think this is a cool idea, and dogs don't. They tend to be nervous about getting into an unsteady support structure. That reluctance can be overcome by having something familiar in the hammock already, preferably you, which is why your dog will prefer your hammock to its own. The dog can learn to appreciate its own warm place, though. My next dog will have a good winter coat so I won't need to worry about insulating it. If I had to generalize, I'd say that dogs like to sleep on the ground under their owner's hammock best, provided they're warm enough. All dogs are different.
