    man thanks! ive been meaning to grab one of these for my brother whos tentatively gettting into hammocking. They are forever sold out and i think i grabbed the last 12x9.6
    ...in it for pics.

    I use the 9x9 Chinook. Got it pretty cheap earlier this year. It is comparable to my friend's Kelty Noah. I'll buy a silnylon at some point in the future but this one works fine for now.

    I usually carry it in my day pack and pretty much everywhere I go... hammock tarp, rain fly, ground shelter, equipment cover, etc...

    Is the fabric similar to the Kelty Noah tarps? And I like how the 12x9.6 closes up on the ends. Wonder if it will go low to the ground and there still be room to hang or if I would need the bigger one?

    I wasn't sure either so I got the larger one just in case.. if you google images of chinook tarp there are a couple good pics of a couple different setups and the pics usually post the size of the tarp pictured, you should be able to get an idea of what you'll need looking at a few of those.
