    Cheap Underquilt?

Well, like most, I've come to the conclusion that an UQ would be nice.
Being a new frugal hanger, I'm gonna try and make one out of this...

    So, what do y'all think?
I started a PL with some added insulation, but this comes with 2lbs of synthetic insulation from the start. I know it wont pack down like down, but all my gear gets wet from time to time so I like synthetics. (wool too when I don't have to hump it.)
I'll give a little update when it meets my sewing machine.

WOW, 80x50 thats big. With a little modification, you could do a 60x45 with some grossgrain channels for the suspension, and have a full length underquilt. Nice, let us know how it turns out. Good buy too.

80"x50" is rather big. Most of the full length rectangular underquilts are 48"x78". So the easiest initial test would be to sew channels on the short end to cinch it up tight and to add loops at the 4 corners as suspension attachment points. If mcgyver likes that config, then good, if not, cutting it down to a partial length UQ wouldn't be that much more work either.

    Good find.

    Cheers

You could have a matching 3 season TQ and UQ for $50, including shipping. That would be pretty cool.

fold it over make it a 40x50 short under quilt. It realy depends on what you want to do with it season wise.

For another $20 you can likely make a "real" one. I've made several DIY Climashield quilts for $40-50 each.

Nothing really. That's why I used quotes. Just referring to one made from the outset as an UQ.
