    Summer Burrow Ordered!

Just pulled the trigger on a Long/Sewn Summer Burrow in black. Will see how it does for temps and decide later on a 3S version. Hope it will be wide enough. That is the only thing I was hesitant about.

    Now the wait begins again!

hey Matt I just received mine before christmas and I'm very happy with it, though i haven't had a chance to use it, given the season. I got black too (though not long and not sewn). Looks sharp. My reasoning for getting the summer burrow was the same as yours---see how it is and if necessary then go for 3S.

I've only tried it on my bed for naps but i'm sure it will be wide enough. The neck snap is pretty cool, too. You'll see. happy waiting.

Thanks for the info! I will camp more in spring summer and fall and feel like it will get more use here in SC. Temps are mild. Might even see some recliner use when I can't be outside. I will just be glad to turn my 5 lb sleeping bag over to my wife. I will have to use my burrow if we family tent camp and I'm sure she and my daughter will be jealous.

    Call Stormcrow!

If you think it will be too narrow, he can sew one in any width up to 60" as I recall. I bought one with a 56" width due to my generous girth.

I got my 3 Season Burrow last week. It's awesome. Very lofty. It's been pretty darn cold here in Utah lately so I've been lounging on the couch in the Burrow. It's so warm & comfy, it's hard to drag myself out of it. I bet you'll get plenty of warmth from the summer model. enjoy.

I thought I would let the summer quilt stay the standard width and then if I need a 3season, I would know if I needed it wider or not. It won't matter as much in summer how wide it is.

It has shipped. Order # 338. Hopefully it will be here in time for the weekend. Got a trip planned, and I don't want to fight with the sleeping bag.

My burrow arrived today. I promptly packed it and the rest of my gear and headed for the lake. Its a summer burrow so it will get a good test tonight at around the freezing mark. Second time out in the new Traveler. Hopefully can find the sweet spot tonight. The bonus is I won't have to fight my big heavy sleeping bag.

Will post again in the am with my impressions.

If you are on the fence about a dedicated top quilt, jump off. This summer burrow is AWESOME. So much better than my sleeping bag. Took the 40 deg burrow down to 30 with no problems other than my feet got a little cool around daylight this morning. Definitely worth it to me. I tried the thermarest sitpad in the bottom of the burrow but I just didnt like it. A pair of polypro socks under the smartwools would probably do the trick for me down to 30 deg.

Also found that I like my Traveler with a very tight ridgeline. Less of a ridge under my knee that way. I will continue to tweek my setup. Only had to get up twice last night. Slept much better than my first night out in it with the sleelping bag.

I used the following to stay warm to 30 degrees:

    1) Smartwool medium hiker socks.
    2) Military wool longjohns.
    3) Columbia fleece pants.
    4) Carhartt cotton thermal top. Need to get a wool top. Cabelas here I come.
    5) Fleece vest.
    6) Fleece pullover.
    7) Fleece neck gaiter.
    8) Silk balaclava.
    9) Fleece boggan.
    10) 3 Season Phoenix UQ.
    11) Summer Burrow.

Did you actually have it in the burrow or under it?
I use a Z-Rest pad under my legs/feet and slide it between the two layers of my WBBB 1.7. My feet have never gotten cold. I use a fresh pair of Smartwools and lightweight thermals.
Matter of fact, getting ready to go out there right now. It's only suppoed to get down to 38-40 tonight. I'm using the 3S Phoenix and a camo poncho liner over the top to keep me warm and to keep out the extra light.
Adam is making me a 3S Burrow now and I will be ordering a Summer Burrow soon.
