    Gathered End Hammock Width ??

Over the next few days I plan to buy some ripstop nylon and make a gathered end hammock.

I plan to follow Knotty's instructions (Thanks Knotty )

Does the material need to be the full 58" wide or can it be narrower ??
58" just seems like a lot of width.

Can it be done with narrower material and if so, will that effect the lay of the hammock.

FYI: I'm 5'11" and 75kg's so don't need a huge hammock but I'd like a nice lay if possible like my WBBB 1.0 double.

Make it as wide as your material will allow, the wider the better. A wider hammock will allow you to lay more diagonal, which contributes to the flat lay.

Measure your Blackbird. I bet it's well over 60".

+1 on wider is better! I made my most recent hammocks from 65" wide material and they are fantastic. Buy wide material and just roll hem the edges.

ditto to what everyone has said above -- I'm 5' 3" - 120lbs. I first made a hammock narrower than 58" and I can't lay as diagonal as others that are 58+ inches.

its ok for hanging around the house but not for a good nights sleep - well maybe 3-5hrs cat nap once in a while

I experimented with narrower hammocks for a while...made probably 4 versions, down to 48". I don't do that anymore. 60" (raw) is the perfect width for me.

    Good luck on your project.

    Thanks Guys

Just picked up some ripstop from spotlight off a sale rack for $3/meter, Black too !!
The lady thought it was 1.9oz/y but didn't know for sure. We shall see when/if I fall through the bottom LOL.

Only width they had was 58" so I'm sweet.
