Decided to put more of those $10 Sports Authority down throws (http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=24286)into use by making a top quilt. Due to their being kind of heavy and thin, this TQ is intended for indoor use (I'm a fulltime hammock sleeper).
1. Start with two 50x60" down throws. The TQ width will be 60".
2. Separate one row of six squares off the end of one throw. First stitch a line close to the existing quilting then cut between the quilting line and the new stitching.
3. Using technique from step 2, remove two squares from the six square strip. This will be used as the bottom of the foot box.
4. To keep things from unravelling you can use an overcast stitch on the raw edges created by the cutting.
5. Throw with one row removed and two squares from removed row. The two squares will be attached to the throws long edge to make the foot box and lower half of the top quilt.
6. Two square foot box being pinned to the throw.
7. Foot box pinning completed and ready for sewing.
8. Sewn foot box. This will be the inside.
9. Completed foot box turned right side out.
10. Final step is to sew the bottom section (with foot box) to the unaltered upper section
11. Completed top quilt. 60" wide by 84" long. If 84" is longer than needed, two rows of squares can be removed from the lower section, shortening the quilt about 10".
