Cougar, high up on the bluff

Traveled to my farthest horsehoeing client Monday . . .

My thoughts have been to arrive earlier like the day before, but late,
hang on the cliffs over looking the Kootenay Lake . . .
then getting up early to work on the horses.

Sunday night and Monday was suppose to be blowing strong, cold and snow . . .

    All good test elements . . .
but my stuff hasn't been tested even close to those conditions.
    so opt out this time.

But Monday turned out real nice calm even sunny, and everything went well enough . . .

Well until a cougar showed up only long enough to ryal the horses . . .

The owner said even a bear doesn't get them going like that.
Man that gelding strut, head high, and deep snorts . . .
The mare just pranced around and qwivered . . .
hard to work on a nervous horse, so finished making the shoes,
    and she calmed down . . .

My next visit there will be in March . . . a little nicer weather
so I will do the hang thing . . .

But I will also, by then have an E-bear fence . . . and big eye balls sewn on my hammock

A few years back I was camping here in south Florida when a panther (local lingo for a 300-350 pound cat) was stalking the campsite. It turns out he was stalking a racoon who was stalking the campsite. That racoon made a fine dinner for the panther that night! It was awesome! Like being on the set of "Wild Kingdom."

Whoa! Thoughts of something that big that might decide to have you for dinner kind of cool, but also unsettling.

Cat's thinking "Hmmmm, wonder what people taste like wrapped in that linen cacoon. Kinda like People Burrito's"

    Man, when you said cougar....

But then I read your post, and you meant the tame ones.

That is really cool! I have a friend who bread a couple of them successfully. But, to see one in the wild is amazing. That's really cool.

Funny, Gargoyle! This is why I always have my Aussies at my side and my backpacking partner brings his 200lb English Mastiff. Ain't no lions, tigers, or bears messin' with us.

This yr's trip to the Black Hills was cut short by an inquisitive mountain lion. The guys next to me told me that pile of bones and greasy dirt on the path down to the creek was a lion kill. I decide to camp in the cargo trailer, in stead of the hammock. It kept showing up about sundown every night. One evening it walked within 5 ft of the guy camped next to me while he was panning in a puddle. It got the contents of that gold pan in the face. One evening it came up to within 20 ft. of my camp and sat down to watch me cook dinner. Like a huge house cat. I felt a bit nekkid with only a snub-nose .38 on my belt. The final straw was when it jumped up on the neighbor's truck hood after dark and put both paws on the side of their camper trailer to watch them thru the window. One of the guys slipped outside and "pierced it's ear" with a .22 That was enough for me, too. I bugged out the next day. 2 things will change next year: 1: a camera, 2: a .45

Bradley; did you get a look at it??. We have a cougar hanging around the river here but no one has seen it yet. The cats are out.

Gargoyle, we both had the same impulse, but only one of us resisted.

Actually at least two of us resisted.
