I use stainless steel. Makes me feel better to know it is between my legs rather than plastic.

Walmart sells a Stanley SS 24oz for 5 dollars. I like the SS option to allow boiling in the container.

Thanks for mentioning stainless. I was testing out my Stainless Nalgene Guyot 38 oz bottle and it seemed to cool of pretty quickly, way too quick to last all night. At first I had a couple of heavy socks (cotton, just to play with), then I took the socks while it was still pretty warm and just left it sitting on the table in the house. It cooled off pretty quick. I don't yet have one of the Nalgene plastic bottles to compare it with. Does anyone have experience with comparing the heat retention of the two different types?
I really like the Stainless bottle, like canoebie said, no worries about leaks, take the lid off and boil water in it no problem, etc., but it is pretty heavy.
I use the Grizz kettle. It is made out of a venom energy drink bottle. I drink from it all day, boil water in it and then use it as a hot water bottle. weighs less than a nalgene and is stronger.

I don't think Grizz is making these for sale anymore though. Good DIY project. I made mine with wick instead of wood pegs.

Have used the same Nalgene bottle for decades now and boiling water has never hurt it. I'll fill it up and slide a wool sock over it and it always amazes me how long it stays warm.
Sure, I have had ancient HDPE Nalgenes split, bu nothing lasts forever. Whether it is for a pee bottle or hot water, Nalgene lab-quality bottles get two thumbs up from me.
I seem to recall a thread regarding off-brand bottles shrinking when filled with near-boiling water........

Thanks for the help. Would have loved stainless steel but reason made the choice and I have just ordered,
