So when I sold my WBBB and switched over to my DIY hammocks I found one of the features I really miss from the WBBB is the gear shelf. That is one handy feature. My DIY hammock is similar to HC4U's HH clone and so it is not made with a shelf. To try and create interior storage that was within reach I decided to make a peak bag. Most of the bags I have seen on here appear to be a conical shaped stuff sack w/ a drawstring closure on the lower end.
What I wanted was the conical shape but a top loader that would prevent gear from spilling out. So that's what I tried to design. The drawstring opening is sort of like a turret on top of the bag. The lower end of the bag is a solid panel shaped kind of like a boat hull. The sides, bottom and top are a one piece "cone" of material with a seam to join them. I made the bag from 1.3 silnylon. The last picture shows my over the shoulder reach into the bag while laying in the hammock. It seems like it will do what I want - but it's still not as good as that shelf on the BB!
