I received a WBBB 1.7 dbl for Christmas. The question is am i doing harm to it by leaving it in the stuff sack whether short or long term?

I can't be very helpful, Mine lives attached to rings in my basement for regular use! Sure are comfortable.
I leave mine bagged all the time. No issues at all after a couple of years.

Leaving your hammock stuffed inside it's bag will not harm it. The only thing you shouldn't do is to pack it up wet and then leave it packed. In that case, you need to air it out and let it dry before packing it and storing it long term. If you're hiking and unpacking every night, packing wet shouldn't harm it for the small amount of time you have it packed. I always try to unpack all my gear when I come home and check everything out. Check for rips, tears, dirt, small critters , moisture. Clean as needed. Then I repack my hammock and store till my next trip.
