    Jeff -

if you're watching this thread can you explain how you sew in the zipper? i was thinking about turning the sock inside out, pinning the two ends and letting gravity hang the loop. then i was going to pin a couple more, take it off the hammock, pin the rest, sew the outter edge of the zipper, open the zipper while still inside out, cut the opening, right side the sock, roll the edge and sew a second inner seam. is this roughly how you did yours?
was the body or fabric you used two 60" pieces of material with seams along the ridge line and under the hammock body?

It's two pieces of material but the seams aren't top and bottom. I don't have the numbers with me right now but the fabric was either 60" or 63".

I hung the top piece and pinned the zipper so that it hung down to the level of the hammock, then drew the curve with a marker. The top piece of material goes from that level, over the top of the hammock, and down to the right side (my head goes on the left, where the zipper opens). So it doesn't go all the way to the bottom of the hammock. The bottom just makes up the difference.

After I cut along the curve, I put in a rolled hem, and then I sewed the zipper. Then I sewed the pieces together.

This hammock sock sounds like a really worthy project...

Does anyone have a mailorder source for 1.1 oz DWR ripstop in woodland camo...?

I have an Molle-Mac gear sock he made for me from eygption cotton that I used
on the MN Frozen butt hang at -15*F and on thursday night where It got -22*F
on the edge of the swamp with great results.

What I realy like about it in the colder temps I don't even use a tarp just the sock.
I keep the whole unit together so set up time is less then five minutes. The wind was 10
mph on thursday and sleeped as snug as a bug in a rug.

I would say it adds at least 10-15 degrees warmth to any sleep system.

i'd be interested to hear how that cotton would do in a humid environment. the whole 'sock' thing intrigues me, but i still don't see it as a part of my system...

I'll be testing mine in the ADK Sunday night, supposed to get down to -36. Will be setting up below zero. Yikes.
