Second time's the charm. Fleece lined down beanie 2.0

Here's my second try at a blackrockesqe down beanie. Apparently the real blackrock is unlined, but I have a shaved head and I doubt the bare nylon would be very comfortable. My beanie has a full fleece lining, and in this model I added a flip-down ear/neck flap. I did vertical quilt lines on this one, and really stuffed each panel with down. Looking at photos, the blackrock is actually a three-panel hat--while mine is a five panel hat (I started out with a pattern for a baseball cap, and added some length to the bottom of each panel--the shell panels being about 1/4 larger all around than the liner panels to account for stuffing). Having to cut and sew and stuff just 3 panels instead of 5 and not having to sew a liner would have been far less labor intensive, but I didn't want to go back to the prototype phase, so I trudged through it. I doubt blackrock could make any profit if they made their hats the way I made mine!

Anyway, it's a great use for some spare/salvaged down. Pics attached!

nice! The flipdown earcovers are a nice touch.

I made a synthetic filled dome hat once and Dang! it is warm. Ugly but still is one of my favorite pieces of DIY gear. I like a warm head.

Would really love to see how it's done. I'm a shaved header as well.
