Hello fellow Albertan.I live in Red Deer and have been reading on this site for about a year. There is lots of information to learn from. Pick a hammock with a mosqito net and you'll need some form of protection also underneath from mosquitos and the cool air even in the summer time. I have a Clark North American but bought a Chinook 9x12 ft tarp as the Clark tarp is smaller than I like. The Blackbird with the double layer bottom would be my next joice.

Nothing wrong with a tent. When I am car camping I carry one for those rare times I can not find a place to hang at the campgrounds (has only happened once)
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

As for tenting in Alberta . . .
Lots of area in Alberta where there are no trees to hang from . . .

    . . . I wonder if that's why we don't have a lot of linchings in our history . . .

    . . . naaaa . . .

Bradley; yes I put a radio tower years ago when the CB was going strong and I hung a spider web of wires for short wave listening but never did get into ham radio. If you check my album I have some pictures of a hammock stand my brother in law help weld for me. It works great, a little heavy but portable when I load up the camper and dont have to look for trees in a camp ground.I have to run a rope off the ends and stake it out to keep the tarp ridge line tight when I lay in the hammock. No pics of that yet.

ALBERTAN: what was your handle back then . . .
    I was OmmaDawn, RFA 11, XM2210303

Funny that I should remember all that . . .

I like your stand and figured it was home made as it has a riser for the fly.
