Newbie from Scotland Uk

Hi Bushshark,

Would you have any recommendations for a 4 – 6 day hike? I’m a Canadian who just arrived in the UK and would like to do some wild camping - both alone and with my family over the next few years.

I’m thinking about doing a trip in March (possibly the West Highland Way), but since I would be coming up from London, I have to look at how I would get to and from the start/finish. If I were to drive up, then a circuit with the same start/finish might be better. On the other hand, if I take the train / bus, there might be interesting walks where I don’t have to worry about going back for my car.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

We´re almost neighbours, well at least compared to the guys on the other side of the pool.

I must say a warm welcome to Scotland from me.
Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you, Work! But have searched some stuff out that might help with your trip up this way.
Unfortaitly I don’t get time off from work till April or would meet up with you for a night to hang.
The west highland way is something I have planned as well but not till summer 2012.
I’ve got an open canoe trip planned on Loch Lomond in April for 2 nights, you can hire out canoes and kayaks at Balmaha, Loch Lomond. Threes also the Galloway Forest Park on the way up you could visit, this is not far from where I am and often take trips to there - http://www.gallowayforestpark.com/ - also have 2 night down there in April.
Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park – http://www.lochlomond-trossachs.org/
This is part of The West Highland Way - http://www.west-highland-way.co.uk/home.asp - Part of this is Balmaha that you will pass and could hire a canoe if you like that sort of thing, A good chance to see the Loch better and some of the islands it has.

The travel-lite site is a bit hard to see but there is plenty of info on it about train, busses and a whole heap of other stuff.

I'm going to Edinburgh,Scotland in June. My brother-in-law wants to do the Hadrian Wall hike. I may not be able to take my hammock. He wants to b&b it. I would have loved to say I hung there. My first overseas trip.
