I got some dark olive lightweight ripstop from Wally World when I found the sil. It is about 1.1oz and it is not worth getting. It is the first time I am not pleased with the $1 fabric. If you see this color in a real light ripstop be carefull before buying a bunch. You can tell by pulling on the edges and it will come apart without much pressure. I started to use it for part of my UQ and the needle holes were not self repairing either.
Try this for a simple test before buying. Hold a piece of the material between your thumb and finger with both hands. Vigorously work the material back and forth with your fingers. A loose weave material will show separations between the threads.

so, does everybody preform the material test when heading into walmart:
weave strength test (for lack of better words)
breathability test
water resistance test
already I get strange looks from the employees and families walking by.
sometimes i wait until i think no one's looking & do the breath-in through the fabric test... then i look around again to see if any one was watching
i did pick up some more really light rip stop for shell/ sock material the other day.
is it just me or do some of you guys begin to breath heavy w/ excitement when you start finding bolts of rip stop
I too will something make and joy in it's making
I have yet to find any ripstop at either of the 2 Walmarts I sometimes go to. I have found some OK nylon though. Hope springs eternal. If I saw a bolt of honest-to-goodness ripstop in the $1 rack I'd probably buy the whole thing on the spot regardless of color. And have some explaining to do when I got home !
The staff at these places is so sparse I could probably try the burn it test (quickly!) and no-one would know. Well, maybe the fire alarms would go off.
I'd never have known to sniff around Walmart for $1/yd fabric if its existence hadn't be discussed on HF!

the only ripstop I found was 1.1 uncoated in camo. call me crazy but I didnt pick it up. it was $3.45/yd
Ditto here. If I had never seen the $1 bin discussed on HF, I probably would have been ignorant to its very existence for quite some time. It took a long time to find anything here in Lexington, my first major scores bieng the sil I got recently. I'm going back in the morning on my way home from work and checking all 3 Wally Worlds in Lexington that have fabric departments again. Never know when a new shipment will come in and stock will be replenished.

Stopped at 4, yes 4 walmarts on the way home from work today. 2 didn't have fabric departments and the other 2 were lacking anything good. I could of hit at least another 8 if I thought about it and blew off work.
