    Yeti/Phoenix???? Questions

Now that the holidays are over and I have a little bit of coin in my pocket I have been looking at underquilts. I have a WBBB and love it so I have been leaning toward the 3s yeti as Brandon does such great work. Stormcrow has caught my attention with all the great reviews, it seems every time I look on the forum there is a new post about how great the 3s crowsnest/phoenix is.

    Yeti 40W 46L Loft 1.5 Temp 20-25
    Phoenix 45W 52L Loft 3.5 Temp 15-20

A couple of questions I have are: Does the difference in loft make a difference? Is the size diffence that big a deal? I am 6'1

Another thing is that the Yeti is on sale right now and the phoenix doesn't seem to be an option on hammockgears.com, keeps coming up product not found, but I am sure that will be fixed soon.

    Your opinions are appreciated!!!
    Thanks Scott DA BEARS

First of all, the wider and longer the UQ, the better for a taller person. That being said, I have a winter yeti, I love it, and I'm 6'2".

As to your question of loft... Loft determines the temperature rating. The more down that can trap heat between you and the cold air around you, the better. It's the same reason thicker coats are warmer.

The Yeti may be a better choice for you right now because it is on sale and because it requires less fussing than the Phoenix. The yeti has a draft collar on either end to create a seal, and that works very well. The Phoenix has drawcords to create a seal on each end, and it is very easy to mess that up.

    Conclusion:

Like every infomercial I've ever seen, the Yeti is as simple as "set it and forget it"

The Phoenix is larger and warmer, though.

You cannot go wrong with either of these products, as both Brandon and Adam put a lot of dedication and devotion into their work, and they both produce merchandise of exceptional quality.

    Just based on this

    Yeti 40W 46L Loft 1.5 Temp 20-25 $180 sale price
    Phoenix 45W 52L Loft 3.5 Temp 15-20 $189

It seems to me you get a whole lot more UQ for 9 more bucks

I am sure quality and workmanship on either quilt will be top notch. You did not say what temps you would be camping at with this UQ so 1.5" of loft could even be too much...

You might also want to call or email and check stock and lead time. That might be a factor in your decision.

    Good luck

EDIT Adam it's not fixed just tried it.
Even when I did an F5 to reload... but with a little clicking around I can get to the New Phoenix's.

    true true..

I chose the yeti for a few reasons
    I am 5' 3" tall
I don't plan for very very cold winter hanging
yeti is a little bit smaller & lighter

for my purpose it works for me

OutandBack - Thanks... Looks like it was an error attributing to a couple of changes we had made behind the scenes. So far, so good.... The link you provided is no longer valid, since we were able to change the route to the pages. Thanks for the headsup. We'll keep an eye on it tonight just in case....

really either UQ will be awesome. i have a crowsnest, but i'm pretty sure the yeti, which is built by the guy who made your hammock, is a perfect fit as well...

go with whoever is putting off better mojo

I have a crowsnest/phoenix, and its beyond amazing. Lofty, warm, and versatile. Since I only have one underquilt, the 3 season 3/4 legnth phoenix is perfect. I've done 20 degrees in it with no problem and done 57 degrees. Instead of buying a summer one I can just leave the ends loose or lightly cinched for warmer weather so it still trap heat well but less than if I had it cinched tight.

I hike mostly in the Virginia and West Virgina area April thru October. The temps range usally from the 20's to 40's and somtimes u wake up and there is snow on the ground......where did that come from and why did I forget to turn my boots upside down........sry about that just having a flash back. I read that the draw cords on the phoenix are easy to mess up but are they really that hard to figure out? Then there is the question of fill, do I need to go with the 900 or will the 800 due. That also brings up that the winter yeti can get you down to 0 with 850 fill, But is that to much quilt for hotter months? WOW every time I get one question answered thee more pop up...just need to pull the trigger on one and get to hanging...

    thanks for all the help..

    Scott
