    'Nother Noob from PA

Hey everyone - Noob here from Pennsylvania. Thanks for the wealth of info and your willingness to share it. I had been considering a rope or parachute type hammock for a while and came across HF in August - it was the first I heard of camping in one.

WBBB dbl came early Sept & I ran off to a county park campground to try it out. Figured, I got a hammock, I don't need no stinkin tent site & went a little into the woods to hang. The ranger drove thru, didn't see the hammock & assumed I was sleeping in my car - I've been getting that a lot I must have been kinda nervous so I hung around in the clearing at the picnic table til after dark and when I decided to call it a night, turned around and couldn't find my hammock! Refusing to accept that my first hammock trip would be spent sleeping the car, I stumbled around in the woods til I found it. The night sky took my breath away and then I slept like the dead.

I got a Superfly w/o doors in time for my first multi-day hang near an event in NY State where it poured buckets 4 out of 6 days. The rain ran under my hammock like a river and I was quite happy and slept dry. The lowest overnight I've done so far is around 37* with a thermarest pad, open fiberfill sleeping bag, Wally World fleece throw between the hammock layers and a fair amount of clothes. Prob could go a little lower but the hammock was getting mighty heavy before I even got in it! Expecting a 3s Crowsnest/Phoenix any day.. . yeah!

So far my only diy projects have been hammock & tarp snakeskins, some alcohol stoves, a diy franken buddy wood stove and some of Shug's wristies (which a friend calls my homeless gloves but they work great). I wasn't prepared for colder weather in time for the NJ/PA Dec Hang but would like to get to the 4th Annual New Jersey Hang. Sure seems like a huge gap between 37* and a possible 17* but it would be fun to meet other hammock folks and see how you do what you do.

Blah, blah, ramble, but I guess that's what happens when ya take so long to register. Thanks for all your posts - the creativity, generosity and humor on this site is awesome!
