The tarp is the superfly w/doors and the Blackbird is the hammock w/ the bug net folded back and rat's pouch is a molly pouch from mollymacpack. You should see the insane bags that Mac made for Rat. I gotta get some

And its not a recurve, its a 58" takedown longbow. Just for the record Mr. Joe Friday.

Recurve or longbow, it's still just a stick...

What's the difference between a recurve and "takedown longbow"??

That Kukri blade is pretty slick, too! Was debating whether to get a hatchet, machete, or both... but that would prolly be best!

Well there is a one piece recurve and longbow then there is a takedown recurve and longbow.

A one piece is just that - nock to nock one piece. A take down is able to be taken into parts two or three on both a recurve and longbow.

A recurve has a limb configuration that that string touches the limb. A long bow is configured so that the loop of the string is the only part of the string that touches the limb.

This is very basic and there are hybrids of both. Mine is a takedown longbow that breaks into three pieces and packs into a case for portability (packing in)

Very nice setup and a nice piece of steel! The Attila the Hun in me wants one but the gram weenie keeps saying, NO!

If you ever go on at trip with someone that left their tarp at home, you could rent out the extra space under yours!

Kukri's are outstanding, in my opinion if you want something for processing wood, DONT get a hatchet. batoning is the easiest way to split wood short of having a maul with you. Hard to baton with a hatchet

A good 1/4 inch thick kukri would be good, lots of different parts of the blade to use for diferent things and it's front loaded to help with fatigue if you have to use like a machete.

^this is what I use whenever I'm out over night. This and a sawvivor processed multiple trees per day on my last virginia wilderness outting, 4 nights and 5 days. INVALUABLE and for me, worth every ounce. Definitely look at the sawvivor too... chopping is fun.. at first. Sawing is the way to go over the long haul and they only weigh like half a pound.

===> I have a Khukri, but I ALSO bought a Cold Steel "Trail Hawk" tomahawk, and removed the head. Can make any length handle in the field, can be used as a maul, and a wedge to split wood. Super handy, for not a lot of weight.

Since I am not real over sensitive to weight I don't mind hauling the Kuk with me. I am getting Opossum to put a new handle on that one and he is milling out a hammer but plate so I can use the back of the handle as a hammer or finger smasher around my dinner plate. I found the blade takes off fingers too efficiently.

The chopping we did in the photos were on dead cedar that was seriously aged and weathered. Anyone from Texas will tell you that a dead aged cedar is some of the hardest wood to cut. It dulls chain saw teeth in a blink of an eye.

The Kuk did a great job. We had some handle issues but that is being taken care of as I type.
