Northern New England - Early Spring Hang Ponderings

Not sure how much winter hanging I am going to do this year as I am a bit late in getting together everything I'd need and not I'm not back in shape yet to do any big snow hikes.

However, I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in doing a group hang in March or early April? Dates at this point are way up in the air as it will likely depend on how hard we get hit with snow this year. However, things should start thawing out nicely at lower elevations come March but you never know up here. Myself, I'm just trying to avoid long snowshoe hikes or steep climbs at the moment.

Anyone interested or have other thoughts/ideas?

Two years ago, my daughter & I did a snowshoeing trek through the Whites in mid-March. There was a minimim of 2 foot base of snow everywhere, sometimes double that.

    Last March, there was dust

You never know! This year is starting off with less snow than last year.

    Thumbs up Of course!

Last year I tried to get a NEHHA (New England or Northeast Hammock Hangers Assoc) hang together but got pulled out of the area for work when the time came. One of the forum members from New Brunswick kept it going and several people from NB, ME, NH, VT, MA, etc got together in Vermont if I remember correctly.

So, that said, Let's do it again this spring!

Although New York is not New England I'm about 15 minutes west of Vermont and I'd be game.

    Might be game.

Btw, Just Mike & I are planning to do the next 100mi section of the LT in August. When are you planning to be out?

Quoddy, how was the group hang y'all did out of Hanover @ Velvet Rocks back in the fall of 2009? Is it a site worth visiting again or do we want to do something different for this spring?

Looks like we have several people interested so far. Now we just need to figure out where we'd like to hang.

I just had a good idea (I think). How about Sawyer Pond towards the beginning or middle of March? There is a decent lean-to shelter right on the pond and there are tent platforms for anyone who doesn't want to hang. The only downside for some is the fact that Sawyer Road will still likely be closed, eliminating a very easy 1.5 mi. hike. We'd have to hike 4.5 miles from the Kancamagus Hwy. end of the trail. There are actually two routes we could take but both are around 4.5 to 5 miles in length.

    What do you guys think?
