    February 2011 NW PA Hang

Hey guys I know on a thread of a new Pa member I talked about maybe doing a February hang well I wanted to get some thoughts I will have a few dates to choose from when I get a chance to figure out my 2011 schedule we know our schedule for a year. Second off is location the two areas I am considering are

    1. Quhenna Trail in Clearfield County Pa 20 miles West Coast Connector loop
    http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry.../quehanna.aspx

    2. Allegheny National Forest Hickory Creek Wilderness 12 miles
    http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/alle...hickory_creek/

I am including links so you can see the area's these will be winter trips of course snow can be in inches or feet we can do short miles like 6 or 20 mile total hikes we can decide that along the way. any interests.

Many years ago I lived in Clearfield county in the town of Dubois. Depending on the dates I would be interested.

I will post dates by next month, If there is snow on ground we will have to adjust the 20 mile loop if the quhenna trail is chosen. There is a pretty good decent which you want to watch on a good dry day I wouldn't want to get anyone hurt . Winter I tend to keep mileage down anyway taking extra gear to stay warm as it is.

19, 20 and 21 Feb would work better for me. I only have five vacation days left to last me till my vacation vests again 23 Mar 2011. I work for a federal contractor so I get all government holidays off. 21 Feb is presidents day and thus I get it off. Three of my remaining five vacation days are already spoken for. So it is theoretically possible that I can make the can make 18 Feb and that is what I am shooting for. If for what ever reason I have to used up my vaction before then. Perhaps I can arrange to meet you somewhere along the way on the 19th. I am not going to sweat out the dates to much yet. As there is way to much time betweeen now and the proposed dates.

Looks like a weekend that might work for me, as well. I have the 21st off and may be able to get the 18th off as well.

Man, now I have to start looking at cold weather gear...I just finished my 3-season gear! Oh well, more things to make/buy!!!

Haven't winter camped in decades. I'me either gonna love it , or freeze...

Well this will be the first winter hammock for me but not first winter didn't make out last year. I cant find the poll feature so will ask what peoples thoughts are. one of course which area would you want to hang of the two mentioned. Second how far do ya want to hike I will be in the quheanna area next weekend for deer season so I can look at some locations. So are you for a short hike in and day hiking from there ,or we can do 6-12 miles each day and re set camp mileage will depend on snow for both travel and water if theres snow we can melt and have water if no snow will need to camp at a water source which is good along the trail there . I am up for either or just let me know so I can plan on campsite or sites thanks Jim

You should come to the NJ hang as a "warm up" to going on this trip.

Sadly, as much as I would love to make it, I just can't get away and I work on the 21st.

I do almost all my hiking out in that section of PA and would love to do some snow hiking.
