CRL under my HH hex fly. I like that beautiful ridge.

Always had a RL over in summer, and under in winter.. but was tying impossible-to-undo knots at each end once the tarp was in position

this year, i'll go "prussik" on my ridge line..

    1) how many loops do you have to do on the 2 prussiks knots for you to feel good that the tarp will not move ? (or prussik is a specific number of loop that im not aware of)

    2) What is the best (balance of lightest and strongest) RL available.. my RL is made of paracord and thinking about shaving some weight maybe.

I use 1/8" amsteel for my RL. Some will say that's overkill. I have my reasons.

I found 4 loops on the prussic worked for me. Do the back yard test to see how many you will need.

Here's a link to my RL backyard test with picts.

I just attach it to the ends of the tarp.

Tarp ridgelines don't do much for me over just tying from the ends.

Why is that? Is this unique to cuben? If the tarp is put together with sail tape the seam should almost be stronger than a stitched one based on my experiences with the stuff. Does this not hold true to the cuben material? Does it peel apart easier?

    I gots questions.

How do you do it, Cannibal? And what materials do you use? I have been researching this all morning and still haven't made up my mind.

    Do what, hang my tarp?

I just run a line from each tarp end to the tree and stretch the tarp using the sewn ridge. Only time it's ever kind of difficult is in high wind conditions. In those conditions a full ridgeline with the tarp is handy and saves some time during setup. This is very much one of those preference things. I suggest trying it both ways and seeing which works for you.

Spinn is my current favorite, but that may be a result of not stepping up to the cuben stuff yet. Still can't justify that price difference yet. I'm working on it, but....... Still, only a small percentage of my tarps are Spinn (3), the rest are sil and work almost as good as the Spinn.

I have a single line set up that I'm happy with, but still trying to figure out a two line system. When using a two line system, what fasteners do you use or do you use knots? I have been trying to figure out the easiest, fastest way of doing this. I use netting sheaths or snakeskins to deal with the wind.

I'm using Figure 9s to secure the lines.
Spent time in the Coast Guard, now I hate knots.

I'm with you. There are faster, easier ways. Do you have the figure nine attach with a pussic so you can accommodate the changing lengths? Sorry, I'm a visual learner. I was thinking of attaching the line to the tarp with a larks head with a figure nine attached to one end then wrapping that end around the tree and tying it off with the other end.
