    amsteel?

Did not want to post in the Amsteel for sale thread.

Can the 7/64 Amsteel be used for ridgelines and tarp tie outs?

    Thanks,
    Brian

It's overkill for tarp tie outs plus it does not hold knots as well as other options. I use zing it/lash it but also use whatever smaller diametre cord I have lying around. IMO tarp tie outs should not be stronger then the actual tarp itself. I'd rather the cord fail that have to repair my tarp.

It's good to use for ridgelines but there are smaller options like dynaglide.

You CAN use it for anything, but it's overkill for anything other than suspension... 1600lb breaking strength isn't necessary for a tarp tie-out...

I haven't used Zing-it or lash-it, but they're basically smaller diameter amsteel... (1.75mm, 450lb minimum breaking strength). Some folks have even made whoopies for tarp ridgelines and tie-outs from these...

For now, I have braided mason's line. Yes, it's nylon, but it's cheap and works...

+1 Zing it= tie outs, tarp ridge lines. Amsteel= hammock suspension
