Zip lock bag zliner

Anyone tried or thought of using zip lock gallon freezer bags as a zliner? Seems like they would work great in the bags. They pack real small and you can inflate and seal them and put them in the bags. Seems like that would give you a ton more stable air than any quilt or liner available at almost no weight or size?

The transfer of heat through MT air in a gal bag would be rapid.
There would likely be no real insul. val.

Isn't that the point of the bags underneath to start with tho just to hold air? Same thing with down?

Giving a warmer lay . . . Yes . . . and for a very late spring/summer/very early Fall.
But as some have indicated in other threads even mid summer night temps can fall below comfy without some serious insul.

As temps go down . . . one needs to be a little more serious about insulating against the cold.

But please try the bags and let us know as It comes up, now and again,
but I'm not sure anyone has given a report.
A more senior member could correct me.

Actually....not quite. You need a "dead" airspace to provide the most insulation. This means you need something that doesn't conduct heat well and that also prevents convection currents. Some kind of reflective surface to bounce the heat back towards the source would make things even better. So you get products like CCF, reflectix, or good old pink fiberglass that insulate well.

you will get some R factor from air, but compare it to an exterior house wall with no insulation and one with fiberglass. id be curious to see how it works.

Re serious insulation : thats my point, isn't insulation just trapped air? The material itself is rarely providing r value itself which is why loft is important in down and not squishing it etc?

Ya that's pretty much the idea.

Maybe my flaw is im considering the trapped air in the bag trapped enough to be dead, but really it has enough flow to give convection loss.

Hopefully i willbe able to try soon but if someone else wants to experiment ill ship you a box of freezer bags from amazon!

One other thing that gives me hope for this idea : the plastic flm insulation people put on their windows to trap air and increase insulation in the winter.

Unless that is working on some sort of uv passive solar principle
