The first underquilt I made, I overstuffed 7%. I can see voids in it when I hold it up to the light. The next one I overstuffed 50% and it's warm but not fluffy (more firm). I now overstuff them 30% and I think I've hit the magic number for me.

If weight is not a big problem, I like to over stuff until the down quits
shifting. My under quilt was 79 x 49 with 3” baffles so it’s a bit large,
It took 35oz before the shifting stopped. Advantages other than shifting
are it’ll loft to 5” and fill any void to your hammock.
I’ve really enjoyed it so far.
Wow, 35 ounces...that must be an Artic rated quilt. As I live in Memphis I am looking at at most a 20 degree rating as I am a cold sleeper and I can always vent the quilts if I need to for warmer weather.
Yes that is what I call the Artic but it being rectangular I had to
draw string the ends so if it's too warm I just open up the ends to vent
it works like a thermostat so I seem to be able to use it under most conditions.
Bottom line it's what works for you, in my case at the time I didn’t want to sew a summer version but as time goes by that DIY bug
gets ya when you read this forum and see all the new ideas.
