    Down Half-Underquilt v1

Just posted a couple pics of the first prototype of the half underquilt
    http://www.tothewoods.net/HomemadeGe...nderquilt.html

I'm gonna change the suspension a bit...I'll put up new pics when I get that done. Should be pretty easy.

    What do y'all think?

Looks good Jeff. Think it would fit on my JRB bridge hammock?
If so, looking forward to directions.

That looks really great Jeff! It's a little bigger than my UQ, but the down vs. synthetic still makes it come in a little lighter. Very nice.
    Trust nobody!

I think it'll easily fit a bridge hammock - this version is just a flat layer against the hammock with a big darted outer layer...the flat layer will allow you to snug it right against the bridge hammock w/o worrying about compressing it.

My next version will be somewhat bathtub shaped.

Cannibal - I like down, but that doesn't make it "better." Re: the size, I think I could do a bit shorter but my next one will be a bit wider.

    looks good.
i can see why you'd want it a little wider.
if i do a short version i think i'll want it long enough to insulate just below where my knees would press against the sides when i draw them up side sleeping.
it looks like the length you used would take care of that.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

hm. I may have to give 1/2 or 3/4 quilt a try. I like it, looks nice. I wont carry a pad unless I have to. My sleeping bag top quilt is only 1/2 zipper, so my legs will be quite warm, even without the insulation under them. It should work, or my extra clothes could help.

Your feet will compress the insulation if you don't have a pad under them...cold feet = cold body.

You succeeded where I failed. That is making the bottom bigger so it keeps it's loft. And wow it looks like 4" of loft. Of course I have to ask how much does it weigh?

12-3/4 oz without the suspension. It's probably just under 6 oz of down.

I went back and read it again and it gave weight and loft. Next time I won't just look at the pictures. Any how that is a great weight to loft ratio. The more I think about it who cares it there is a pad under you legs and feet. My thing-to-do list keeps getting longer. I no longer have a gear closet. It is more like a gear room.
