Also, how much of a problem is it really that the down shifts to the middle and leaves you cold?

I've always gotten cold along the bottom before I got cold along the sides...down shifting to the middle wasn't a problem. Every night when I get into the hammock, I fluff the down up towards the top as part of my setup...never had an issue with it.

thanks for all the advice. I'm now in between buying a retangular campmor bag (of which I already have a mummy style) and a no sniveler. I'd like the no sniveler, but it's $100 more. We'll have to see what I can drum up for extra cash.

Worth the extra $$ IMO. You get the extra functionality of being able to easily wear it around camp and a much better down fill than the campmor bags.

And I might add, anything with down, even DIY, ain't cheap.

But.... down is the way to go if you're doing a multiday, many mile trip. High performance to weight ratio, and best of all it packs small.

If you factor in the value of your time, then the price of commercial beats DIY by miles and miles. But if your time is cheap (like someone I know ), then DIY takes less out of your checking account.

Just to confuse you even more, I'd go with the No Sniveler over the Nest. I have both and the hole in the NS makes it really easy to wear as a serape ala Clint Eastwood. Although the Nest can be worn as well. The slit in the Nest is overrated for use in the Hennessy IMO as well as others. Much easier to just push the underquilt aside when entering/exiting.

FF has been hammocking longer than I have, but I would argue for the JRB Nest. I just bought one before Christmas (on sale!) and I'm quite pleased with it. I bought a KAQ synthetic UQ last year and keeping the bottom end of the quilt, from hips to feet, against the bottom of the hammock has been a bit of a challenge. The Nest's velcro eliminates that cold spot. I just ordered JRB's suspension kit for the KAQ and that seems to help but I haven't been able to test it yet.

IMO, you need a CCF under you feet anyway, and a pad needs to be part of your kit in any case. The Warbonnet UQ with a CCF pad looks like the ultimate set up, IMO.

I LOVE DOWN, but in my pursuit of a lightweight and functional solution I opted for a 1/2 synthetic. I get the perceived benefits of synthetics with weight less than most down UQs (16.09 oz). The pad goes under the legs where condensation isn't an issue. For the record, I hate pads!!!! I'm a sweater, so they aren't ideal for me. I can honestly say that using them in this configuration does not take anything away from the comfort factor.

I've slept very warm and comfortable with this set-up in pretty cold conditions. Since mine is a prototype I can't speak for WBG on what his retail price will be, but I'm sure it will be less than the cost of most other options out there (NO, mine wasn't free; don't hate ). The Warbonnet UQ takes care of my "3 Ws": Warmth, weight, & wallet. Plus, it's cool!
