Hanging from Rocks at Joshua Tree

Just returned from BSA campout and wanted to share my experience with suspending my hammock from a rock wall. I slept 9.5 hours with nary a slip in suspension.

I used Black Diamond climbing nuts #13 with redundant #10 at one end and #12 (as cam) with redundant Bluewater 6mm accessory cord and ring over natural horn anchor. Planning on getting another #12 so can suspend with double redundancy safeties (two nuts and accessory cord at each end). Camp Nano 'biners, 5mm accessory cord sling (on left with purple nut), and orange whoopie slings complete the picture.

I never got cold - Hammock VPL was 2 person emergency blanket (not shown), CCF pad, +15 Kelty bag in MSS gortex bivy sack. Got too hot after 4 hours and got out of bivy sac and lay on it with sleeping bag as top quilt.

Next BSA campout - Death Valley group site- no trees, no rocks.

Awesome! You could probably easily say you were the first person, ever, to sleep there!

Use to do a lot of rock climbing and tent camping there in the 70's. Lots of potenial "rock hammock hanging" sites there.

That is awesome. Did you have any issues with the hammock rubbing against the rock wall during the night?

Very nice. Makes me want to run out and bone up some more on rock climbing techniques. Out here in the desert where I live that really opens up possibilities.

Awesome. Great pictures, but where is the one with you in the hammock?

The boy scouts were messing with my phone in the Suburban on the trip back - I lost some pictures. Oh well.

Well the climber in me loves this. Always planned to go to JT but never made it. You probably know this but there is a simple way to weight both wired rocks equally therefor distributing your weight . If your not familiar i could explain it if you like.
