    hey yall

    hey yall,
my name is Odie and I am from New Orleans, LA. I fell in love with the outdoors at my AIT training at FT Huachuca. Since then, I have solely done all of my camping in hammocks. I am currently a student studying political science, and I work part time at a mid size outdoors store named Massey's outfitters. I came here to learn more about the "outer reaches" of hammocks, if thats what you choose to call it. Can't wait to learn!

    thanks,
    Odie

Welcome onebigbagostupid, I see you found a good place to hang. If you come often enough you might have to change your HF name to something like onebigsackosmartstuff. LoL...

You will learn a a lot from these folks here. Although I'm new to hammocking but not to the outdoors. I received a good piece of advice from an introduction welcome from KerMegan. I'll pass it along perhaps it may be beneficial to you.

KerMegan wrote: "best advice I can give is keep an eye on the 'trip planning forum'- likely there will be a group gathering you can get to, and it is an excellent opportunity to see many set-ups and brands of gear all in one place. or peruse the Diy gear making arena, and get ideas for making your own, or getting started on the cheap (especially if you can beg/borrow a sewing machine- aka 'thread injector', or know someone who sews and might owe you a favor..)
have fun with the learning curve! it is all good..

Oh and if you don't know about "shug" you should.

heya Odie. New Orleans French Quarter is probably my absolute favorite vaca spot, LOVE the culture down there.

And secondly, I did my AIT at Huachuca too, glad to see another Huachucanite on here. I miss AZ like crazy, loved hiking and spelunking out there.

    and btw, WELCOME

Welcome to HF from Bama............NOLA is a wonderful town and holds many fond and not so fond memories for me. I was married there and until recently my daughter and ex lived there. You can find all the information you want on this site and the people are the best on the net, hands down!!!! If you can heed the advice and go to a group hang the gear is diverse and the people are as well.

Welcome to the fascinating world of hangers. You can find almost anything you ever wanted or didn't think you wanted to know about hammock camping.
