Question about fabricweight?

You guys keep talking (writing) about different types of ripstop for hammock that is 1,1oz or 1,9oz or whatever.

What is that?

I know that oz is ounce but is it per square-"something", or what?

Since I´m from Europe I have some difficults in "translating" this measures to something I can understand.

it is referring to the weight (or strength) of the fabric per square yard...or in metric units it is nearly one meter square, or 10000 cm squared. It is just a way of categorizing the different kinds of ripstop nylon. hope that helps!!

That means that:
1,1oz = 37gr/m2
1,7oz = 58gr/m2

I have made a single-layer hammock made from 50gr/m2 = 1,5oz
I weigh 190lb

A Traveler Single Layer 1,7oz is rated to 240lb
A Traveler Single Layer 1,1oz is rated to 185lb

1,5oz should be rated at approx 220lb
That gives me a safetymargin of 30lb

If my mathematics are correct it will help me from nightmares...

I used your figures to check mine, and we're pretty close. I calculated that dividing ounces per square yard by .03 gives grams per square meter.
