Making a Gathered End Hammock have question on Multicam material.

I was wanting to make a Gathered End Hammock I was wanting to do the whole thing in Multicam. I was going to use this material for the hammock itself.
http://www.duroindustries.com/index....on-fr-finished and then use this Mulicam material for the tarp. http://www.duroindustries.com/index....0d-1-9oz-nylon I have never made a hammock myself so I was wondering if that material would be good for the hammock itself. Also any suggestions on measurements for a tarp or hammock cut out would be great.

The first material should be fine for the hammock. Similar to the 1.9oz/yd ripstop from Speers that I've made hammocks from. Not the absolute lightest, but should be plenty sturdy. Same for the urethane coated material you are thinking of using for the tarp. Heavier than silnylon, and the urethane coating may have some long term wear issues (flaking/peeling), but I wouldn't let that hold you back if you like the multicam. It is pretty cool. Show pictures when you complete your project!

A gathered end hammock is pretty much dead simple. Just figure out the size, hem the edges and whip the ends. 10'-12' long is common. I have a 10' but wish it was a 12' but thats more weight and you need a longer tarp.

A 10' long tarp barely covers my 10' hammock rings.
Pitched in a diamond it has more coverage.

I use harbor freight straps to the trees, 2 decender rings each end and short amsteel loops to connect the hammock to the rings.

First one you may want to go to Walmart and hit the $1.50 bargain fabric section for ripstop and build one out of that first. I have found, 1.3oz, 1.65 oz, 1oz netting, and recently I found some digital camo ripstop, but it weighs about 3 oz. Nice stuff though and it cost me $6 for the material for one hammock.

If you intend to use a CF pad, I would recommend building a double layer with openings one side so you can slide the pads in. Heavy though unless you use double 1.1 oz.

Pads inside a hammock are too much PIA for me to deal with.

If you are using an UQ then a single layer is good.

    Duro Multicam

I purchased the same materials for my project as well. The hammock turned out fine, the tarp has not yet been completed. I started the hammock out at 120" x full width of the material. Follow the gathered end hammock thread and you'll be fine. If you don't like the length or width you can always cut it down but obviously not the other way around...Bush

Thanks for the replies. I was mainly worried about the material for the hammock. I did see the thread/video about making a gathered end hammock. That is what got me thinking about making one.

Thanks for the pictures. I like the little one you have. I am guessing that is for your gear. What shape tarp are you making or thinking about making?

    Multicam Tarp

Can't decide if I want to make a hex as in the photos or scale it down a bit to something like an OES Dlx. Since it's 1.9 I'll probably keep it larger for car camping as I alredy have a couple silnylon tarps for backpacking. Good luck, if I can do it, so can you! Never used a thread injector until this summer and that was my first tarp attempt in the pics...Bush
